misscam: (We are not amused)

I'm having spring cleaning urges, like I do every year around this time. I need to go to IKEA and get another DVD shelf, because I've run out of room and started stacking them in already full book shelves. Not that BSG season 4.0 DVD doesn't look pretty next to a Terry Pratchett book and all, but still. I've cleaned, vacuumed, hung up pictures, sorted boxes, packed up a thing to [livejournal.com profile] ishie and now I'm wondering what my Internet-related spring cleaning project should be for Easter.

So, a poll!

[Poll #1377413]

In other news:

A mother in Pennsylvania has been charged with giving her 13-year-old daughter drugs and alcohol so the woman's boyfriend could get the girl pregnant, police said Thursday. Shana Brown, 32, is no longer able to have children but wanted to have a baby with her current boyfriend, Duane Calloway, said Uniontown Police Det. Donald Gmitter. The pair decided to drug the girl so Calloway, 40, could have sex with her without her knowledge, he added.

...

Excuse me, I'm going to go over here and feel ill for a moment. And don't read the comments to that story, because some dick went Anybody want to guess what color these people are? and that can only lead to more fail. On the bright side, it seems the kid managed to avoid the attempts at rape and will now hopefully get a better home.

In other FAIL news, Afghanistan has passed a new law that means Shia women must now get permission from their husbands before leaving the house and removes the right of women to refuse their husbands sex, unless they are ill. NATO, UN and generally anyone who is not a sexist asshat don't like this at all, which is no wonder, since this is FUCKING REVOLTING.

Cheer me up about humanity, someone?

Need cheering? Laugh/cry at how bad the US ending to Life on Mars is. May not restore your faith in humanity, but good for the lulz.

Why did we even bother ousting the Taliban?

They were totally bad in the wrong way, apparently. Do it the right way, and you become key ally instead.

Sigh.

It really is amazing how much grace and compassion humanity can have on one side, and total fail on the other. I just wish there was so much more of the other.

Thanks for the link. It's a reminder of how big a difference you can make just starting small, really.

Whenever I read a story like this, I feel like I've been touched by grace.

Glad to help you see the other side today.

This piece of news made me very happy.

You should have never put a write-in option in your poll. I couldn't resist, probably because I had to restrain myself from ticking all the ticky boxes that came before. *g*

Crime at Easter?? Er, what??
Looking at my nickname, I think you will easily guess what did I choose in your first poll ^_^

That mother..... gods, how many sick people are out there???

Does it make life on Earth a little better to know that while the mother in PA is dragging down the entire species, Iowa has legalized gay marriage?

And although I picked marzipan, what Easter really means is hot cross buns. Only time of the year I get 'em, and I like them.

I answered the last question from your perspective (I seem to recall mention of marzipan and your fondness for it) because how I feel about Easter wasn't an option. And that is: bored. I think Easter is THE most boring holiday of them all. I don't do well with regular neverending Sundays in the first place so Easter Sundays are Sundays that never ever never end. I'm hoping the one coming up won't be as bad as usual since we've got the Doctor Who and Red Dwarf specials to look forward to.
