misscam: (How hard can it be?)
Hey Aussies, did you know you had a state called Capricornia?

True fact, according to that stellar map The Dail Mail suppplied. Meanwhile, flooding in Queensland is still bad. I have great affection for Qld after living there, so sending all the anti-flooding vibes I can. Stay safe, Aussies.

So this is 2011, starting out much like 2010 ended. Meanwhile, here in Norway, a TV personality was attacked by a moose while walking his dog and suffered serious damages. Brain hemorrage and loss of vision in one eye to mention some. Okay, one should take care near adult moose especially if they have moose kids with them, but damn. Moose aren't usually that aggressive.

The BBC has made a list of 100 things we learned through 2010, which has many cool things.

I've been nominated in the 2010 Spock/Uhura awards for the one Star Trek story I wrote last year, and in two categories even. (Best One-Shot and Best Humor.) Can't complain about that.

I've also started my post-apocalypse story and decided to make it mainly a Merlin AU set in something akin to our time. I've also decided to sneak in other characters from everything to L&O:UK and Melrose Place.

How's the near year treating you?

(What the hell is going on in Torchwood fandom, anyway? Massive implosion or something?)
misscam: (What the fuck have you done)
You know, I've been in two minds about Wikileaks for a long time and still am. But regardless of how I feel about the site, some of this shit going down in regards to the rape charges the Wikileaks founder, Julian Assange, is facing is pissing me right off.

Behind a cut, as it might be triggery for some. Explicit details of the case is not discussed, but are mentioned in some links. A lot of displeasure with Michael Moore and Keith Olberman included )

So. Show me your integrity. Show me your willingness to actually do something progressive and not support rape culture. Show me you can listen, not just talk. Show me I can trust you to call out me if you felt I did wrong, and not give me a pass for being on the same side.

I sure as hell am not giving either of you that pass. I expect better of those I am inclined to agree with and support; that's why I am so inclided in the first place.

Live up to it. Show me your integrity.
misscam: (Whut?)
Said among my peers today about Michelangelo's David using the golden ratio: "I don't think the penis is in divine propotion."

I sniggered and the rest of the day seemed to follow a pleasant pattern.

Then I came home and read the headline 'I'm in love with my grandson and we're having a baby' and my brain crashed painfully.

... Um. Okay, the child is carried by surrogate and it's a donor egg, so the issue of genetic flaw due to incest won't come up, but... Um. Um to infinity.

It made for an interesting contrast today, yes.

Also, I made a Lloyd/Olivia fanvid again. It'a good training and kinda relaxing to do, basically. Now I am half tempted to do a Rassilon vid to Muse's "Uprising", heh.

Off to measure forces with the Lich King. Bring it on, Frostmourne.
misscam: (Grr)
Found via [personal profile] who_la_hoop.

Offensive, shitty racist image behind the cut )

WHAT IS THAT WHAT.

WHAT.

YOU DID NOT JUST USE THE REPULSIVE SHIT DONE BY EUROPEANS TOWARDS THE FIRST NATIONS TO JUSTIFY EUROPEANS BEING RACIST THESE DAYS.

WHAT THE HELL IS THIS SHIT AND CAN I KILL IT WITH LUTEFISK?

Ugh, this shit is just across the North Sea from me. Dear darling Brits, please to be voting non-racist and non-shitty this coming election?

Source.
misscam: (Fail!Dalek)
A group of past and present University of Sydney students set up a ''pro-rape'' page in the sports and recreation section on Facebook, describing themselves as ''anti-consent''.

Anti-consent. Because that's so much better than pro-rape, naturally.

The list of allegations is pretty sickening as well, but hardly surprising if this is the sort of place to spawn a Facebook group like that. The fail is astounding.

I'm not sure if I feel more angry or sick. It's probably a tie. UGH.
misscam: (Live long and go fuck yourself)
You know what the death of a ficitonal character is not like?

Rape. (Spoilers for Torchwood's Children of Earth.)

I quote:
I feel raped. Maybe it was a date rape, full of flirting and promises and even kisses, but when I saw what was happening, even in the first episode, and tried to get away, the bastard came after me and pushed me to the ground and forced himself on me. (...) I want the show we were promised. I want to stop feeling like a victim.

... OH NO YOU DIDN'T. Girl, I've had ficitonal characters I've really liked die on me. I've also been raped. Guess how much they compare?

NOT AT FUCKING ALL.

Between this and Sarah Palin's latest inanity, I am grumpy. Must try not to be.

So, reasons to be cheerful:

- I finished another Star Trek fic.
- This old Lord of the Rings commercial a Norwegian channel made that has Gollum sing.
- William Shatner reading Sarah Palin's Tweets as poetry.
- My 4.5 BSG DVD arrived at last and Norwegian customs didn't even tax me. Hurrah!
- My football team made it through to the next round of UEFA Cup qualifier.
- My dinner is homemade lasagne, the tastiest thing I know.

You got any?
misscam: (Sleeep)
I so shouldn't be awake. Yet I appear to be. A few reasons for that.

- Brother and his girlfriend have gone back to Holland. Bit of peace is nice again but I'll also miss them. Nothing like contrary feelings.

- Blizzard decided to unleash patch 3.2 a week before I was expecting it. Oi. Gotta update all my addons, get tactics for new raid dungeon, sort out changes to all my characters and prepare for a lot of 5man dungeons this week.

- There is apparently an Internet petition to get Michael Jackson nominated to the Nobel Peace Prize. Oh no no no no. First off, you cannot nominate someone who's died. You very firmly cannot, as it's stated in Afred Nobel's will. Secondly, you can't nominate him. Only select people can formally nominate for that award (included here are former winners, university professors in certain fields, members of naitonal assemblies and various others) so petitions this like this needs to be directed at someone eligble to nominate and not the award committee itself. (Research, people! You can do it.) Thirdly, OH COME ON.

- Reading material the first: Poster rants about not being warned for slash; wank ensues. Oi.

- Reading material the second: Secret gets posted about Uhura and skin colour; a lot of comments ensue. (I'm in there too.)

- Reading material the third: Who is going to want to see Downey Jr. and Law make out? I don't think it would be appealing to women says a former movie critic. Oh yeah. And there isn't a whole porn genre dedicated to men who like to see women get it on either. Oh, wait...

- Every time I try to go to bed, my brain starts writing in my head. Random summaries ("Uhura is informed, Kirk is curious, Spock is not telling and McCoy wishes he didn't know." - yeah, now I just need the story for that one) and odd notes ("a foursome through a friendship under construction") and crossover ideas (how would the Doctor and Spock get along given one very tragic thing in common?). SHUT UP BRAIN.

- I'm stocking my iPod with new stuff. Know how I discover a lot of songs I stick on there? Watching fanvids, of all things.

- There is more than one guy out there who likes to do it with horses. (If you've forgotten the first, I give you the epic "His 'wife'? A horse.") I'm scared, Internets.

*eyes bed*
misscam: (Stop pissing me off)
Says Republican Congresswoman Michele Bachmann:

I find it interesting that it was back in the 1970s that the swine flu broke out then under another Democrat president Jimmy Carter, and I'm not blaming this on President Obama, I just think it's an interesting coincidence.

For one, the outbreak happened in 1976 when Gerald Ford was in office. For the second, are you kidding me? Are you full of crazy batshit? Are you really trying to sell me that mutations in the flu virus are affected by what party the US president belongs to? Because that's the primary concern of a lifeless virus, suuuuure.

Also, the passive aggressive, 'oh I am not blaming this on Obama, I just bring it up in a way hoping others will do it for me' is added fail. Either stand by your batshit or STFU. Preferably, STFU.

(Then I went and googled that woman, and ugh, why did I? Not the first time she's failed at facts and sanity, it seems.)

Meanwhile, an Israeli official brings another kind of fail:

The outbreak of swine flu should be renamed "Mexican" influenza in deference to Muslim and Jewish sensitivities over pork(...) Deputy Health Minister Yakov Litzman said the reference to pigs is offensive to both religions and "we should call this Mexican flu and not swine flu," he told a news conference at a hospital in central Israel.

Because calling it Mexican flu is not at all offensive. At all, you know. And what the hell, this sensitivity means you can't even mention pigs? And isn't associating pigs with influenza just yay for you if you find pork unclean? It sure ain't good PR for our piggy friends.

(I got some issues with calling it swine flu myself, as it's not the greatest description of what it now is spreading from human to human. And since it seems to be a mutation of the flu that strikes us humans every year with some genetic material from flu that commonly strikes pigs and birds, we could just as easily call it human flu blah blah. But bitch, please.)

Is it not bad enough we have potential flu pandemic, must we have possible batshit pandemic to go with?

In Norway, we have no confirmed cases and things are so far fairly zen. We apparently bought heaps of flu medicine some years back and have enough for one third of our population if worst should happen. My government actually thinks ahead sometimes. Not bad, government! Now don't do anything batshit to ruin it.

In more cheerful not-really-news, check out this story about a cat that likes to hang out at the library.

Fidel, an eight-year-old black cat, turns up at Deal library almost every day while his owners are at work. He spends the day on his favourite blue chair, only leaving the building when he sees his owners arriving home. (...) Heather Hilton, district manager for Deal Library, said: "Fidel certainly seems to like coming here and he's very popular with our customers. I think he's a bit of an art critic too because we sometimes see him examining the pictures on the gallery wall."

Hee! And the picture with is made of win. What a regal attitude. That should totally be made a book icon of. I love cats, they cheer me up even when batshit hits.

misscam: (WTF)
Just when you think you've heard it all... I give you the trailer for One Eyed Monster. (That YouTube vid is not safe for work, mainly due to language.) Yes, that title is a reference to what you think it is, but you might not be able to guess the rest of it.

It's apparently quite real, though DVD release only. It has an official site.

...

I DON'T EVEN KNOW.
misscam: (The TARDIS)
So. There was new Who.

Spoilers for Doctor Who's Planet of the Dead )

Overall: Liked, but wasn't overwhelmed. Good fun at times. Some lines I really liked. I give it mostly approval.

There is also new Red Dwarf (OMG) which I will comment on when I've seen all the parts. But I loved that show so much back in the day; revisiting it is lovely either way.

Meanwhile, Woody Harrelson is accused of assaulting a paparazzi and offers the following statement:

"I wrapped a movie called Zombieland, in which I was constantly under assault by zombies, then flew to New York, still very much in character. With my daughter at the airport I was startled by a paparazzo who I quite understandably mistook for a zombie."

... Either he's being really funny or really scary. I can't make up my mind.

Easter accomplishments of the Internet kind:

- Posted BSG crime fic. That was fun. And fitting of Norway's "Easter crime" tradition, which none of you get. But that's all right. We don't even know why we have it ourselves.
- Finished BSG/Doctor Who crossover with Adama/Roslin, Lee/Martha and the Doctor getting punched in the nose by the Admiral. With beta, whee.
- Finished Kara/Lee piece for faithful and much too lovely beta [livejournal.com profile] lyricalviolet, which is with another beta so she doesn't have to do work on her own gift-fic.
- Wrote and posted MM/EJO RPF. (Requires membership at [livejournal.com profile] bsgrpf to read.) Am going to hell. Then again, was going already.
- Fixed my LJ memories because they were a mess. Now I just have to remember to use them.
- Finished and posted my Adama/Roslin manifesto to [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto.
- Got my shaman to level 69, and my guild now has Satherion with two drakes down on heroic. Yes, that's World of Warcraft.
- Spent too much time pondering if I should sign up to [livejournal.com profile] bsg_remix or not. Am torn. Anyone have good or bad experiences with that?

Lazy Easter like whoa, oh yes. Though I did also do the first biking of the year in brilliant, brilliant sunshine. IT'S SPRING. This makes me ridiculously happy like you have no idea.

How's your life doing?
misscam: (Fail!Dalek)
Oh Berlusconi, you're just made of fail, aren't you. Says he about the earthquake survivors:

But Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi appeared to brush aside the dire conditions facing survivors during a visit to one of the camps. "They have everything they need, they have medical care, hot food...," he said in an interview with a German television station. "Of course, their current lodgings are a bit temporary. But they should see it like a weekend of camping."

*facepalm* Weekend of camping? They've just lost their homes, been traumatized, possibly lost people they know and are in fear of aftershocks, of which there have already been several - that ain't like no camping I've been on. Berlu, are you trying to weasel your way into 'soulnemesis' status here now that I retired Bush from it or something?

Ugh.

In brighter news, have written over 5000 words on my Doctor Who/BSG crossover and am almost done. Just gotta fiddle a bit with the draft and settle on a title, which can be such a pain. So a question for people who know Latin out there - what would 'doctor in the box' be in Latin? I'm considering making a play on 'deus ex machina', but my Latin is non-existent.

Funny thing, writing a story. It so often evolves as you're doing it, going unexpected places and sometimes ending up as something a little bit foreign to even you.

Speaking of fanfics, return of the 'I'm going to publish Twilight fanfiction!' saga of DOOM. Oh dear. There's dumb, and there's that.

Podcasts, as voted for in mah poll:
Cam reads 'The Art of Not Having Sex'. (Doctor Who)
Cam reads 'Sleeping With Your Laundry'. (BSG)

Now my dear darling cat, I do adore you very much, which is why I bought that tasty fish for you and why I let you sleep in my bed with me. But in 'Ways to Wake Camilla Up Because I Want Something', I would very much appreciate it if you took 'poking her breasts with this paw with the claws out' off the list. Because ow.

How are you all on this Wednesday?
misscam: (We are not amused)
I'm having spring cleaning urges, like I do every year around this time. I need to go to IKEA and get another DVD shelf, because I've run out of room and started stacking them in already full book shelves. Not that BSG season 4.0 DVD doesn't look pretty next to a Terry Pratchett book and all, but still. I've cleaned, vacuumed, hung up pictures, sorted boxes, packed up a thing to [livejournal.com profile] ishie and now I'm wondering what my Internet-related spring cleaning project should be for Easter.

So, a poll!

[Poll #1377413]

In other news:

A mother in Pennsylvania has been charged with giving her 13-year-old daughter drugs and alcohol so the woman's boyfriend could get the girl pregnant, police said Thursday. Shana Brown, 32, is no longer able to have children but wanted to have a baby with her current boyfriend, Duane Calloway, said Uniontown Police Det. Donald Gmitter. The pair decided to drug the girl so Calloway, 40, could have sex with her without her knowledge, he added.

...

Excuse me, I'm going to go over here and feel ill for a moment. And don't read the comments to that story, because some dick went Anybody want to guess what color these people are? and that can only lead to more fail. On the bright side, it seems the kid managed to avoid the attempts at rape and will now hopefully get a better home.

In other FAIL news, Afghanistan has passed a new law that means Shia women must now get permission from their husbands before leaving the house and removes the right of women to refuse their husbands sex, unless they are ill. NATO, UN and generally anyone who is not a sexist asshat don't like this at all, which is no wonder, since this is FUCKING REVOLTING.

Cheer me up about humanity, someone?
misscam: (EJO and MM TVGuide alternate)
(Another day in the life of CamFamily - [livejournal.com profile] misscam and CamMum happen to be sharing a train to work, as sometimes happen.)
[livejournal.com profile] misscam: So, wedding next week, huh?
CamMum: (confused) Whaaa...? Whose?
[livejournal.com profile] misscam: Yours and dad's!
CamMum: Oh, right. I thought for a moment there I'd forgotten something.
[livejournal.com profile] misscam: Apparently, you had. Your own!

My parents, lol. Wedding next Wednesday, and I got time off from work that week. Finally. I'll have time to get out the summer clothes, fix my bike and write some fanfic. BSG-kind, naturally.

Another reason Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell rock my boat -Spoilers for Daybreak p2 ) Awwwww.

Bear McCreary also posted his finale post, and it's long, informative and guess which scene really made him cry? Yeah. I'm so buying his double-CD when it comes. And where's my season 4.5 DVD with deleted scenes, extended stuff EJO and MM doing a commentary shut up I can dream, bloopers and lots of behind the scenes stuff? I am waiting.

Finally, I give you: Titanic (an animated musical) review - part one and part two. Because every blockbuster should have an animated musical rip-offversion. With a rapping dog, racially stereotyped mice, crying dalmations and some really stupid accents. It's like Disney met a trainwreck and added to the impact.

Never say I don't bring you some proper WTF.
misscam: (WTF)
I has finished first post-finale BSG fic. Bit more sap than I usually write, but what the frak. It's with beta and my mind is already pondering what to write next. I kinda promised [livejournal.com profile] lotus79 I would do one on Adamas and love with Adama/Roslin and at least some Kara/Lee, but Spoilers for the BSG finale ) Thinking can be so overrated.

Speaking of not thinking: A tale of a creationist teacher in Norway and the Twitter-backlash that brought the story all the way to national and foreign media.

What seems to have happened is that one teacher who was in charge of the website for Moltemyr school here in Norway put an article on the school's website essentially denying Darwin's theory of evolution. Some Norwegians start Twittering about it (because truly, wtf?) and off it goes to all the major newspapers and even Pharyngula. It was even on the news I watched his evening. The principal has quickly gone out to deny this being the school's official view and had the article yanked and everyone is generally being all FAIL TEACHER FAIL WTF WERE YOU NOT-THINKING.

You see, Norway is a majorly secular country. True, we have a state church and a majority is still officially members, but we're mellow and often agnostic or atheist and consider faith a private matter. You don't go asking a stranger in Norway what they believe in - it's like asking them how their sex life is doing. (Americans, I know you mean no offense by it and it's different in your country, but really, tone yourself down a bit when you go here or Norwegians will stare at you as if you just grew two heads.) As a result, religion isn't much in politics either. Or in science.

Creationism in Norway is generally viewed as something really weird coming out of America, like pet marriages. There are some Norwegians that believe it, but I kid not when I say this is a tiny minority. So tiny coming across it has lead to much merriment in the past. A teacher putting it up seriously on a school website? Oh dear oh dear oh dear deary me oh. (What he puts up on a personal website, I could care less, though I might still laugh a bit.)

And that all this came to light through Twitter? Pretty amusing. Bet you wish that had never been created, teacher.

I offer the same caveat as last time I went on about this: I note here for the record that those who choose to believe God is behind evolution and whatever else - I don't share that belief, but I can at least see where it's coming from. Harcore creationists leave me with a sort of weird fascination and much merriment because wtf, truly.
misscam: (Home is where the heart is)
You might remember the charming story about a Brazilian archbishop who ordered excommunication of the mother and doctors of a nine-year-old girl who had an abortion after being raped by her step father. Well, it managed to get worse.

Outrage occurs. The president of Brazil is unimpressed. The archbishop remains unrepentant, but guess who he doesn't want to expell from the church?

The unrepentant archbishop said overnight the accused stepfather would not be expelled from the Church. Although the man allegedly committed, "a heinous crime, the abortion - the elimination of an innocent life - was more serious."

I HAVE WORDS AND THEY'RE ALL OF RAGE. We're taking about an abortion for a nine-year-old pregnant with twins, who wouldn't even be able to carry one baby to term and is already severely traumatized. So for saving her life, you want excommunication, but for the (alleged) child-raping asshat of a step-father? Welcome to the church! Saving a life is more serious than rape, apparently.

What the hell, Catholic Church? WHAT THE HELL.

Now onto BSG's 'Islanded in a Steam of Stars', which did its usual thing of killing me in various ways.

Spoilers under the cut, with a few screencaps )

In other news:
- Cancer-stricken couple chooses to die together at a voluntary euthanasia clinic.
- Svalbard hit by major earthquake.
- Josef Fritzl, the Austrian accused of sexually abusing his own daughter over 24 years, will plead guilty. (According to his laywer, who also denied Mr Fritzl was a "sex monster" and said he loved his daughter Elisabeth "in his own way". NO. If you rape someone - repeatedly or once - you lose the right to claim you love the person, dammit.)
- Michael Jackson might earn over $400m if comeback goes well.
- India is having a contest for a symbol for the rupee. (A la £ for pounds, $ for dollars, and um, I don't have the Euro sign on this keyboard. Because Norway has weird EU issues, probably.)
misscam: (Walkabout)
Between NSB's latest fail (train disruptions yesterday afternoon and this morning, whee) and Official Stuff at work, I am slightly worn out. Feels like I've done nothing but work, sleep and curse Norway's public transportation this week, which sounds about right. Just tomorrow and then weekend, thank Frey. (And new BSG!)

Also it's been so cold this winter there's no more oil for heating. Fuck. That's never happened before. New has to be ordered, meanwhile I'm freezing a tad.

Also, I rather pathetically did make a Adama/Roslin claim for [livejournal.com profile] ship_manifesto - it's been accepted and my due date is April 8th, so I can take into account what happens in the finale. But I will surely ask for a bit of help - I need to find a title, someone who is okay with me using their screencaps and input is always good. I don't want to make it lame, self-congratulatory or things in that vein. Possibly I take this too seriously, but I am weird.

Meanwhile, this story made me hiss more than a little. A Brazilian archbishop announces those who helped a nine-year-old rape victim get an abortion all face excommunication. This kid had apparently been raped since the age of six by her step-father, and was pregnant with twins when her uterus was too small to contain even one baby, which means her life was at stake. How about directing some of that Righteous Wrath towards the ass of a step-father (who apparently also raped the 14-year-old handicapped sister) and STFU about people who tried to help a traumatized kid whose life was endangered, Catholic Church? I award thee a FAIL.

Also a way to market a product: USB tampon drives. No, really.

Lots of people on the Internets seem to be talking about the Bachelor finale - as summed up here. I've occasionally watched the show for the same reasons I sometimes don't stop reading a really, really bad book - I like to repulse myself and I can't help but want to know how bad it will get. That seems to be about the bottom.

What's up with you all?
misscam: (No dissent!)
Oh, snow. Finally you're here. Only bummer was getting up at 6 a.m. to shovel it. Oh well. That's living in Norway for you. And hey, [livejournal.com profile] maureenlycaon, your package made it. Hurrah.

I got me a Twitter now. I am a slow sheep, I guess.

I really have no words for this one.

In summary:
1. Editor comments that one story in an analogy didn't work for him.
2. Author of the story finds this informal one-line review.
3. Author suggests editor kill himself.
4. Author suggests editor kill self and cat.
5. Internets boggle.

Bit more on the situation, including the author in action.

WHAT. THE. HELL. This rather puts some of the hissyfits I've seen some fanfic authors have to shame. Seriously, who does shit like this and even remotely thinks it a sane thing to do?

A clinic nurse first removed her intrauterine birth-control device without permission, says the patient in a federal action, then told her that "having the IUD come out was a good thing," because "I personally do not like IUDs. I feel they are a type of abortion. I don't know how you feel about abortion, but I am against them."

You know, whatever personal views on abortion? Some shit you JUST DON'T DO. That's majorly one of them.

Is this the best job in the world?

The Caretaker of the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef is a newly created position. There are a few minor tasks that need to be taken care of, but the most important duty is to report back to Tourism Queensland (and the world) and let us know what’s taking place on the Islands of the Great Barrier Reef.(...) The Island Caretaker will be based on Hamilton Island – the largest inhabited island in the region. It’s located just off the coast of Queensland with a wide range of restaurants, activities, shops and tours. The temperature is warm all year round and the combination of blue skies, crystal water and pure sands forms the backdrop to an ideal island life.

HIRE ME QUEENSLAND. Seriously, half a year doing that? Yeah baby. It would be smashing fun and shiny and I've already lived in Queensland, so it would be a welcome return. I think I shall apply, if only for the faint dream of it. I'll have to sort out a way to make a video, though.

Norwegian Nazi!zombie movie on the loose. No, really. It's showing at Sundance. I'm not sure if I should apologise to the world or ask it bow to the awesome.

Enjoy your last day of Bush, Americans!
misscam: (OMG!)
You know how sometimes something is so wrong it's screamingly right?

THIS IS IT. I'm speechless. I am. This is either extremely brilliant or really, really sad. Either way, it's scary and should probably be kept away from children.

In other ' you won't believe it till you see it': Pro-Life Group up in Arms over Krispy Kreme's doughnuts. See, apparently Krispy Kreme Doughnuts decided to honour American's sense of pride and freedom of choice on Inauguration Day, by offering a free doughnut of choice to every customer on this historic day, Jan. 20. Okay, PR thing for Obama taking over as President, but no worse than some of the others, right?

Yes!, says pro-life group. See, The unfortunate reality of a post-"Roe v. Wade" America is that 'choice' is synonymous with abortion access, and celebration of 'freedom of choice' is a tacit endorsement of abortion rights on demand," the group's president, Judie Brown said in a statement.

Yeah. I see how that makes sense. IF YOU'RE BATSHIT. Did 'freedom of choice' in PRESIDENTS occur to you, batshit people of batshitness?

People can be really, really scary. HOLD ME.

Thanks [livejournal.com profile] sessifet25 and [livejournal.com profile] littlezink.
misscam: (Cave-In)
This makes me ill in more than one way.

The mother and brother of a 14-year-old Afghan rape victim face charges after they cut her open and removed her foetus without anaesthetic, it has been reported.

... They actually cut her open. Tied up in a barn. While she was fully conscious and aware. And this, to them, is honourable. I think I'm gonna be sick.

That poor girl. Get raped at 14 and then your family does that to you. I just have no words. This week is not doing much for my faith in humanity, I have to say.

In other stuff:

- If you're really hungry for a buger, a new deal offers you one free for defriending ten people on Facebook. I see drama potential in that one all right.

- Doctor Who fandom - persistent troll is at large. Keep your IP tracking on.

- An anthropology professor at the University of Hawaii is doing research into World of Warcraft. His comments about WoW are pretty interesting, and I'd totally read a book of his. Though going from living two years in Papua New Guinea to raiding hardcore in WoW must be some contrast.

- LJ offers an explanation for the latest stuff. Hurr.

- An interesting look at what happened to FanLib. I remember some of the wank when FanLib first launched, but I'd failed to notice it had died to Disney's touch.

- LESS THAN A WEEK TO NEW BSG. I'm not sure if I'm more excited or scared for what's to come.

- Life on Mars is reairing on Norwegian telly and I'd forgotten how awesome it is. Why haven't I bought the DVDs? Hmm. Must aquire that and Hustle. My poor already overflowing DVD shelves...

That meme everyone is doing:
That icon meme )
misscam: (GTFO)
The Vatican is totally batshit. Contraception, clearly an environmental danger and an evil of the world, clearly. Bound to be the next supervillain Batman has to fight. Except, you know, not. Actually an important tool in fighting HIV, STDS, unwanted pregnancies and overpopulation. You know Vatican, between this and not wanting to support the decriminalization of homosexuality, you should check your own water supply first, yeah?

Meanwhile in Doctor Who fandom, Eleven seems to have brought the expected wankery. I find it vaguely hilarious that a lot of stuff said about him now is almost word for word stuff that was thrown at Tennant when he was announced. The more things change, the more they stay the same? And yes, there's already Eleven/companion-of-choice fic and comms about. Of course.

Also, in fandom not-news, breaking friendslock is not cool. What the hell is up with the recent trend, DW fandom?

In BSG news, small clip from the next episode on preview. Ooooh. Ten days. WANT. NOW.

Seem to have been nominated for some fanfic naughty award. Bit surprising since explicit sex is not exactly what I'd consider any speciality of mine, but eh well. I guess Nine/Ten/Rose qualified for some sort of kink. You can apparently still nominate there, so go mad?

the fanficcers love meme, continued

(As a fanfiction writer, have you ever wondered what your 'winning' fic or your most well-loved fanfic is? this meme is for fanficcers who want to know which of their works are others' favorites as well as for readers who want to show more appreciation to the fanficcers.
